HRDC believe a great development requires the creation of places that have been shaped by the local community. Last year over 1,000 people attended our public exhibitions, hundreds more have visited this website, joined us at the design workshops and other community events. This showed us just how passionate the local people are about their community and we are incredibly grateful to all of those who took the time to help shape our proposals.
We are fully committed to the future prosperity of the town and HRDC has looked to sponsor a number of community led events taking place in Houghton Regis and Dunstable. Below is a selection of the events HRDC have or will be involved with this year
HRDC was delighted to sponsor the Houghton Regis Carnival again in 2017. The floats on parade are always of an incredibly high standard and this year was no exception. HRN1’s Commercial Manager Russell Goodchild had the pleasure of joining the Town Mayor Joanna Hilliyard to judge the procession competition. It was great to see so many local groups and societies involved in the carnival, and we would like to congratulate all of the winners and runners up.
Along with local MP Andrew Selous, and Leader of Central Bedfordshire Council James Jamieson, HRN1’s Commercial manager Russell Goodchild attended the official opening ceremony of the A5-M1 Link road on the 13th July at The Incuba in Dunstable. Collectively the delivery of HRN1, the A5-M1 Link and the Woodside Connection is crucial to the continued growth of Houghton Regis, Dunstable and the wider area. The HRN1 development is contributing a total of £45 million to help deliver the A5-M1 Link Road, along with land for the Woodside Connection.
HRDC was delighted to attend the evening reception of the new Houghton Regis Mayor Joanne Hillyard on the 24th May following the Council’s Annual General Meeting. It was a great opportunity to meet local stakeholders in the town and to hear about the Mayor’s chosen charities for the year. We look forward to working with the Mayor and the Town Council as we move forward with our plans for HRN1 over the coming year.
To mark the first anniversary of work beginning on the A5-M1 Link Road and the Woodside Connection on 3rd March Roads Minister, Andrew Jones, MP visited the site along with Councillor Nigel Young, Executive Member for Regeneration at Central Bedfordshire Council. They toured the development sites along with James Owen, representing HRDC. When completed the A5-M1 Link will provide the northern boundary to HRN1, whilst the Woodside Connections runs North to South though the eastern portion of the site. Both roads will provide easy road connections onto the M1 at the new junction 11a, which will benefit new and existing residents alike.
This was our first year sponsoring this event and we delighted by the local Christmas spirit and how many residents attended. It was great to see many community groups involved running stands with raffles and games, including a chance to have a photo with Father Christmas on his sleigh. HRN1 sponsored this year’s Bedford Square Christmas tree, and the mayor kindly agreed to have his photo taken in front of it! The tree looked fantastic and we hope the residents of Houghton Regis have a Happy Christmas.
We were delighted to be able sponsor this event for the third year running. It has been fantastic to see this event grow over the last three years, we feel it is the start of the Christmas season for Houghton Regis. The concert has been running since 2002, with many local lower schools participating in a evening of Christmas Carols. All proceeds from ticket sales go the "The Mayor's Appeal Fund" specifically for local charities. This year we were joined by local Town and CBC Councillors for a drink beforehand which was a good opportunity to catch up on all that has happened in Houghton Regis is the past year.
