The delivery of the A5-M1 Link has been made possible by a contribution of £45 million from HRN1 to this crucial piece of new road infrastructure. The Link road will solve the strategic local traffic issues and provide a new connection to the Luton and Dunstable Busway. When complete the A5-M1 Link Road will also deliver circa £630m of present value benefit (2010).
The Woodside Connection runs through the site and will provide faster journey times by reducing Heavy Goods Vehicle congestion in Houghton Regis town centre. The road will also provide a direct connection into the A5-M1 Link road roundabout with the new M1 junction 11A.
The development will require significant new infrastructure including new foul water and sewerage connections, a local road network and new utilities provision. The plans for HRN1 also include undergrounding the electricity pylons that currently run parallel to the M1.
